20,000 books donated to schools in Lewisham

Covid has had dire consequences on children's learning, as a result of widespread library closures and schools stopping loaning books because the library is a communal space that could spread Covid across the school. However, Ihezie Foundation found a novel way to resolve the crisis.

Ihezie Foundation donated over 20,000 books to children in Lewisham schools working in partnership with the Mayor of the London Borough of Lewisham, Cllr Damien Egan and Cllr Kalu, which has increased the schools loan stock so they can create more classroom libraries and continue lending books during COVID, as well as gifting books to children who are at home self isolating or unable to come into school because of disabilities or diseases making them vulnerable to COVID.

"Thank you so much for all of the books that have been donated to St Joseph’s. As you can see, this has made a huge difference to our new school library" Nicola Doherty, Headteacher shared the photographs of the new school library stocked with books donated from Ihezie Foundation.

We received recognition for the valuable and outstanding contribution within the Borough's response from the Mayor of Lewisham and they kindly sent us this certified recognition.
